The Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Rochester is made up of volunteers from 39 churches who help homeless families with children under the age of 16 achieve and sustain their independence by providing them with food, shelter and time.  Families are given a chance to regroup, rejuvenate and then get back on their feet with dignity.

The network operates 365 days a year and can house up to 14 people.  Host churches put up families overnight in their church facilities for 1 week each quarter.  Buddy churches supply volunteers.  We are a Buddy Church with the UCC and have many opportunities for service:   Set Up, Take Down, PM Hosts, Overnight Hosts, Morning and Afternoon Van Drivers and Evening Meals are needed during our Buddy weeks.  Our volunteers range in age from 2 years to 80 plus years.  More information with detailed job descriptions are on the clipboard sign up in the church lobby.

2007 dates for Buddy Weeks:

March 18-25, 2007

August 5-12, 2007

September 23-30, 2007

November 18-25, 2007

*IHN requires an important informational & sensitivity training for all volunteers.

Once trained, recertification is required every 3 years.

IHN also offers a Preschool “Home Start “ Program operating 3-4 mornings each week at the Day Center with volunteer teachers and provides after school tutoring for older children.  Many of our church members volunteer in these educational programs, too.  The Day Center continues to have ongoing fix it needs – we have provided labor and supplies for new shelving, storage areas, carpet cleanings and wood floor repairs.
