For many of us, September represents a time of change. It's the time when summer begins to turn into fall, and when children go back to school. Here at First UU, it is the time when we transition back to two services (on September 13) and it is the time when the children's
religious education program begins anew. This fall we are inaugurating a newly restructured children's religious education program that is designed to fit more flexibly with family
schedules in today's world.

The pace of Church activities is picking up and we are looking forward to some upcoming special events. Mark your calendars now for Sunday, October 4, 2009: it is Association
Sunday and plans are underway to hold one big 10:00 a.m. service with the whole
congregation at the Rochester Art Center where we can all be together at the same time.
Elsewhere in this newsletter, you'll find information about the many ways you can become involved in life here at First UU.

We bring ourselves to this religious community for many reasons. We come with questions, with a desire to serve and with a need to connect with others. Sometimes we come with tears in our eyes, and other times we are carried along by a song. We come for inspiration and to care for one another as we journey through our lives.

A religious community is one of the few places in our society where we are invited to bring ourselves as whole persons...our feelings, our minds, our bodies, our souls, our gifts and our religious imaginations. We bring our love of life, our struggles, our disappointments, our deepest questions and our fears.

In this religious community, we are invited into conversation. We are invited to learn and grow...to work together with others, bringing our deepest hopes for the world into life. We are invited to practice our best values, and to grow into our better selves. We are invited here
to become more alive.

Welcome anew to life at First UU!

See you in Church,

Carol
